Archbishop Stephen Brislin of Cape Town  & SACBC President (From February 2013)

Born in Welkom in the Free State on 24 September 1956, he did his schooling at St Agnes’ Convent, Welkom and CBC, Welkom. He joined the seminary and did his Philosophical Studies at St John Vianney Major Seminary in Pretoria and continued his Theological Studies at the Missionary Institute, London. He was ordained into priesthood on the 19 November 1983.

On 28 January 2007 Ordained Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kroonstad, and later Pope Benedict XVI appointed him as the Archbishop of Cape Town on Friday, December 18, 2009. He was installed as the Archbishop of Cape Town on 7 February 2010, on the Solemnity of Our Lady of the Flight into Egypt, the Patronal Feast of the Archdiocese of Cape Town.

Archbishop Stephen Brislin became the President of the Southern African Catholic Bishop’s Conference on February 2013.

1986-2005: Vocations Director

1989 July: Appointed Vicar General

2003: Elected and appointed Administrator of Diocese of Kroonstad

2006: Appointed bishop of Kroonstad, ordained 28th January 2007

2007-2010: Liaison bishop ongoing formation Vice-Chair Finance Committee

2009: December 18, 2009 Appointed Archbishop of Cape Town Installed 7th February 2010

August: elected 2nd Vice-Chair SACBC

2010: Elected Vice-Chair Finance Committee

2012 August: elected President of SACBC (to take effect Feb 2013)
