The Chairperson of the Office of Migrants & Refugees, at the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC), Archbishop Buti Tlhagale has condemned strongly, the recent attacks on foreign nationals that occurred recently in Soweto and Zeerust.
“Once again, we had to see media images of well dressed, well fed South Africans looting foreign owned shops, assaulting the owners, threatening them with death and leaving destruction and shattered lives in their wake” said Archbihop Tlhagale. HOMILY
Earth Day – September 1, 2018,
Everyone in South Africa is aware of the three-year old drought in the Western Cape. While we are praying that the rains this year will fill the dams, it is recognised that this is not just a once-off event. Our climate is changing and water is becoming scarce, especially in the Western and Northern Cape. It is forecast that South Africa is going to become a dry country, beginning in the Cape and gradually moving inland. We cannot wait and see what happens. It is essential for the future of our country that we assess the present situation and plan for the future. A long-term solution needs to be found.
